Spotlight: The Lantern Post and Herb Shop
The Lantern Post and Herb Shop is a peaceful oasis in the charming town of Lithopolis, Ohio. With a large herb garden and a calming pond, the shop is located in a pre-1800 building that has been continuously operating as a business since that time. “It still has the original sand stone stage coach steps leading into the shop. The original timber framing is visual as are the original wooden floors and framed glass windows.” says owner Leslie Fisher.

Not only is this a one-of-a-kind location, but it’s a one-of-a-kind establishment. The store was opened over 10 years ago by Ms. Emma Wagner, a Registered Nurse, who opened the shop to support the holistic community and those MD’s who integrated the use of both traditional and holistic medicine – a true pioneer in its mission to support, not diagnose, those who patronize the shop. Leslie Fisher purchased the store from Ms. Wagner and has been carrying on in that tradition. “My love of herbs and use of non-traditional remedies was embedded in my upbringing. I had a grandmother from Ireland who was a nurse and my mother had her PhD in infectious diseases. Homemade salves and teas were an every day commodity, but traditional medicines were also respected.”

In addition to nutritional supplements and vitamins, Leslie stocks spelt baked breads and cookies, bulk spices and herbs, essential oils, hand crafted tinctures and creams (made on site) and a line of organic soaps made from the herbs that grow in her large herb garden. Her store carries a huge inventory of Dr. D’Adamo’s products as well, “I have used Eat Right 4 Your Type for over 10 years personally. It was the very first product that I stocked in the shop and was thrilled to learn that the MD’s I support either were aware of your product, or were extremely open to the line. Not all the customers were aware of the products, but they are often recommended the product by their practitioner and remain long time clients and supporters.”

Leslie is excited that her business is thriving and her customers are her first priority. She regularly attends as many conferences as possible to keep up-to-date on the latest trends in natural medicine and supplements and reads as much as she can about natural healthcare – including over 30 websites and holistic communities. “The customer base I support is very open to the fact that you must first mend the body to be able to maintain it.” Leslie states, “Our bodies are our vehicles in today’s world.”
